Grammy awards are the Oscars of the audio market. The music industry began its awards half an hour following the Academy Awards were established. The Grammys, the Gramophone Prizes– initially called, were made in 1957 from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
The Grammys were all conservative. At that moment, rock was not contained in the nominations, because it was considered a fad. Even though the committee consisted of representatives from jazz, pop, classical, R&B, nation etc, many innovators never won any awards for decades in the long run.
The very first Grammy awards were first introduced for oscars annually 1958, on May 4, 1959. Even though Elvis Presley’s recordings were half of those songs marketed annually, The King wasn’t even nominated.
It’s said that Frank Sinatra, the chairman of the board, had a hand in this, because he did not value Rock’n Roll, in addition from the 2nd year, when Bobby Darin has been granted the Record of The Year Award for 1959 for “Mack the Knife,” Sinatra loathed the brand new music longer. During the subsequent decades, however, Sinatra listed precisely the exact same song.
The end of this sixties still stayed conservative, but using Woodstock in addition to the push for afterwards with all the times, the middle-of-the-road choices began to take hold. Back in 1969, the group 5th Dimension was demonstrated to be a god send using their tender fated rock songs, winning two awards into the specific same tune, “Aquarius–let Sunshine in.”
The traditionalist view lost its traction throughout the seventies when the Grammys relaxed the strict judging criteria and contained the stone music musicians like the Eagles and Stevie Wonder.
A slap in the face arrived into Grammys using their main scandal when the Best New Artist Award was given to Milli Vanilli. Milli Vanilli were a twosome who had three sisters in the primary place. It was afterwards discovered that the two never staged any among those tunes, but lip synched. Their manufacturer said later, “We made a pact with the devil.”
The Grammys were aired on television for the first time by ABC until CBS purchased the rights of telecast from 1973. The Grammys were held in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium for a Number of Years then jumped to the Staples Center Due to the increase in the magnitude of the market in Addition to the groups. For many years, New York and Los Angeles have collaborated for hosting the Grammys.
In 2008, Grammy awards will celebrate its fiftieth season, a landmark inside the audio awards business and will be retained so far to be announced at Staples Center, Los Angeles, California.
